The location of the Campus, overlooking Scalloway harbour, provides ideal opportunities for students to undertake training afloat in the training vessels and workboats.
MV Moder Dy is a 13.7 metre twin-screw aluminium vessel with accommodation for 6 persons. There is a comprehensive suite of marine electronics (including ECDIS) for the hands on training of students. In addition, the Moder Dy is equipped to carry out environmental survey work.
MV Atlantia is a 10 metre trawler equipped with a variety of commercial fishing equipment. It is used for the testing of new fishing equipment, research and the training of students in safe operations on board fishing vessels.
NAFC also owns a dedicated salmon farm workboat MV Crest.
An Avon Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) and a Polar Cirkel salmon farm tender are used for inshore work/sampling, conducting practical RYA courses in boat handling and for survival at sea etc.
