RAY'S BREAM (BRAMA BRAMA)

This fish is widely distributed throughout the world, although its occurrence around Shetland is considered to be quite low.  This is a fairly deep water species with a range down to 1000m, which occasionally comes close to shore.  This species is classed as an opportunistic feeder, feeding on small fish, cephalopods and other small invertebrates.

This specimen was 53cm long and caught in 160m of water while fishing for mackerel.
