NEW INTERIM DIRECTOR FOR NAFC MARINE CENTRE

The NAFC Marine Centre has announced the appointment of an interim director, Dr A D Hawkins, who will take on the role from 2 April 2008 for an initial period of three months.

Chairperson of the Shetland Fisheries Training Centre Trust - which manages the Centre - Iris Hawkins said: “We feel very fortunate to have engaged Dr Tony Hawkins for this initial interim period because of his long association with the NAFC Marine Centre and his well known expertise in the field.”

Commenting on the appointment, Dr Hawkins added: “I welcome the opportunity to take on this role and to work closely with staff and trustees over this period to help lead the Centre to a bright future.

“My top priority will be to appoint a new director who will consolidate the existing expertise and skills at the Centre.  I also hope to raise the profile of the Centre, keep it running smoothly and lead it forward to provide a high quality service for Shetland.”

Dr Hawkins is former director of Fisheries Research for Scotland and has spent the last six years running his own consultancy company providing environmental advice to Government and industry.

He is also heavily involved in the North Sea Regional Advisory Council which was set up to advise the European Commission on fisheries management in the North Sea.
