Biomass and Sea Lice Treatment Modelling

An application for consent to discharge for a fish farm needs to be supported by site specific modelling that predicts the deposition of feed pellets and faeces on the seabed. Using the latest computer modelling software we are able to determine the optimum biomass for a farm using SEPA's "limiting factor" approach to assessing impacts.

We also carry out modelling to support the SEPA application process for sea lice treatments. Using the techniques outlined above and those which simulate inshore tidal patterns, we are able to determine the quantities of each medicine that may be released into the marine environment without breaching statutory Environmental Quality Standards.
