Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems (GMDSS) simulators are required for the delivery of GMDSS GOC (General Operator) and ROC (Restricted Operator) courses. The TRANSAS TGS 4000 simulator is fully compliant with IMO Resolutions and the latest requirements of the STCW Convention, and is approved by the UK MCA for the delivery of GMDSS training. At SSNS, we have four GMDSS simulator stations for trainees in addition to one instructor station - three of the simulator stations have sailor 2000 series panels.
The functional capabilities of the GMDSS simulator include:
- Possibility to choose between SAILOR Compact 2000 and SAILOR System 4000 equipment in 'stand alone' or 'class room' mode. In stand alone mode, the students can practice on the individual equipment where as in classroom mode; they can communicate with other students in simulators.
- Various radio wave propagation conditions can be simulated from the instructor station.
- Self education program (Tutor) as well as Built-in HELP system on all the instruments with reference materials on GMDSS theory and some ITU publications
- Printing of received information on both simulated and connected external printers
- Availability of an electronic chart with a coast station database and indication of the current ship position, course and speed
- Running the prepared scenarios
The equipment that can be simulated is:
- VHF radio with DSC Channel 70 Receiver
- Portable VHF Radio
