Shetland Seafood Quality Control
Shetland Seafood Quality Control (SSQC) , based within NAFC Marine Centre, was formed in 1985 as an independent quality assurance organisation to maintain and strengthen the Islands reputation for high quality seafood products.
The benefits of having an independently operated inspection service was recognised and embraced by those involved both in the white fish and salmon industries. SSQC has expanded from a one man operation in 1985, to an organisation that now employs 14 staff.
Over the years SSQC has developed to offer a wide range of services provided as follows:
Marine Farm Services
- Marine Environmental Services including, marine surveys, taxonomy, modelling and EIA
Inspectorate Services
- The Certification Scheme for Superior Quality Shetland Salmon

- Microbiological and chemical analyses
SSQC is based in the NAFC Marine Centre in Scalloway.
