Aquaculture Farm Sites

Our aquaculture trials site is situated close to the Centre at the Lea of Trondra (East Side of Trondra).  It is made up of two blocks of six cages - each cage is 6 x 6m and 5m deep.  There is a walkway around all the cages to facilitate safe working.  The facility can hold up to 255 tonnes of fish and is surrounded by anti-predator nets that prevent seals and otters entering the cages.  Along with commercial fish growers in the area, the site is part of a 'Local Area Management Agreement' that promotes best practice.

In addition to the fish growing trial site, we also have a Crown Estate lease for a separate shellfish growing site.
