Aquaculture Development Section - Strategy and Remit
The Aquaculture Development section aims to support the activities of production and supporting companies, but also to consider the ultimate consumer in terms of quality, efficacy and value. Consumer demands have and continue to change markedly in recent times and growers, processors and suppliers have to respond to these changes while maintaining the economic viability of their operations.
As well as working with industry to optimise production through efficiency, the section engages with stakeholders in projects and training provision that incorporates product quality, fish welfare and the environment. Finding a balance between all of these factors is central in defining the value of this food production sector in the eyes of policy makers, regulators, consumers and the wider general public.
Although the section works closely with companies locally and nationally, it is 'outward facing' and engages in scientific, industry and other stakeholder networks to ensure that it runs both efficiently and effectively.
